While that answer is in the process of being formed, here is what it is in the eyes of founder Bradly L. McGarr:

"The IRTEA seeks to be the premier social and service organization for the hobby of travel. Plainly, we're a community drawn together by a simple passion - the freedom and adventure of the open road. From Youths just earning their driving privileges, to seasoned veterans with thousands of miles of experience, anyone who seeks to gain more from life by experiencing places and scenery is welcome.

We're first and foremost a social organization, organizing local events and coordinating larger gatherings of road travelers across the nation and around the globe.

However, we're also an organization that knows that we can make a difference in our communities. The IRTEA will work to make our communities better for all that venture through, whether it be promoting road safety with young drivers, to providing long-distance drivers with a needed break at state rest areas, to adopting a highway for litter control. The IRTEA has an opportunity and an obligation to do good in our communities.

In addition to being a social and service club, the IRTEA looks forward to becoming a clearinghouse of information, and organization watching out for rights of travelers and seeking out information that will impact travelers.

The IRTEA also hopes to build each year a list of award winning highways, destinations, and Road Departments, among other things. It is my hope that the IRTEA will look at honoring and showcasing certain routes, destinations, and highway departments that make this hobby great."

Currently the IRTEA is working on drafting our bylaws, creating our systems of governance, and building our membership base. Those interested in forming local clubs or joining should check out the Governance Forum until a membership process can be formed.

Thank you for your interest in the IRTEA, and stay safe on the roads!
